Maria Menounos
In the course of caring for her mother who suffers from Stage 4 brain cancer Maria realized she was in the midst of the possibility of a health issue on her own. In February 2014 Menounos started experiencing troubling symptoms. Menounos tells PEOPLE that she has been experiencing headaches and lightheadedness since February 2014. "My speech became disorganized. I also had trouble understanding the Teleprompter." A MRI showed Menounos to be suffering from a massive meningioma tumor in the brain that increased to the size as a golf ball. It was pressing her facial nerves. Menounos made an appointment with her mother's doctor famous neurosurgeon Dr. Keith L. Black, and they scheduled surgery for June 8th, her 39th birthday. He told her, "I am 98 percent sure that it's benign however, we won't know until we get into there," After the lengthy surgery lasting about 7 hours the surgeon Dr. Black was able to take out 99.9 per cent of the cancer. The result was benign. She says that Dr. Black said it was likely to have the tumor reappearing in six to seven percent of the cases. The odds of this are my top bet. Menounos is home after her hospital stay for six days. She is currently recuperating and enjoying time with Litsa as well as her mother. Litsa's recent MRI confirms that she is unaffected by cancer.
